Josh and Courtney are one of those couples. The kind that brighten any situation with their joy and love for life. I first met Josh probably about 10 years ago. We went to high school together, and a lot of my memories of our days back then revolve around music. We played loudly (and he played well) in the shed behind his house, we led worship together with a band at his church, and we even made up a song in Spanish once for a class presentation. I don’t remember exactly when I met Courtney, but I always thought she was one of the nicest people I knew. Well, during the fall of our senior year, Josh started dating Courtney, and the rest as they say, is history. After graduation, we went our separate ways for college, but kept up with each other through social media and occasional conversations. When Josh proposed last fall, I remember thinking that whatever photographer they chose to help them celebrate would be super blessed.
So you can imagine how excited I was when Josh got in touch with me and asked me to do the honors. Courtney is now a first grade teacher in New Kent, Virginia and Josh works in pharmaceutical research. The couple that began dating way back in 2005 has grown up and is ready to begin life together as husband and wife, and I am thrilled to be a part of their celebration. We planned to get together on the evening of June 29th. This turned out to be significant for two reasons. The first, which we knew, was that we were getting together exactly one year before Josh and Courtney will get married. The second significant thing about June 29, 2012 was that it may quite literally have been the hottest day I’ve ever lived through. When I met Josh and Courtney as the sun began to drift lower, the temperature gauge in my car read 106 degrees! I knew Richmond was a warm place compared to Pittsburgh, but that was a little more than I was expecting. We discussed the option of meeting early the next morning instead, but decided to give it a shot. We were all battling the heat, but Josh and Courtney were as cool as the other side of the pillow. I have to admit, we had cold towels, dry towels, and bottles of water that we used liberally in between setups, but I was amazed as I reviewed images. Josh and Courtney, you both look awesome, and if I hadn’t been there I doubt that I could even tell how hot it was!
Thank you both so much for allowing me to be a part of this exciting time in your life. I wish we lived closer so Hannah and I could see you all more, but it was awesome seeing you again after so long. I can’t wait to celebrate with you next year!
